Zulin is an unofficial apprentice courtesan at the Verdigris House. She is a minor character in The Apothecary Diaries.
Appearance[]
Zulin is a young girl around Chou-u's age. When she was poisoned, she became paralyzed, and her fingertips starting necrotizing. She was able to walk unsteadily once she recovered, but remained mute.
Personality[]
In contrast to her older sister, Zulin has a timid streak, easily flinching when someone glares at her. When she saw Jinshi painfully eating a grasshopper, she curled up on the floor and cried.
Background[]
Zulin is a mute girl from a poor family who was poisoned after eating cakes made from contaminated grain. She recovered with Maomao's assistance, but Maomao had expected that her help would go unpaid and had insisted on a formal IOU upfront, which entitled her to take possession of Zulin when her father failed to pay her. However, Zulin's older sister wanted to protect her from the courtesan lifestyle and offered to become one voluntarily. Zulin now lives at Verdigris House with her older sister as an unofficial apprentice courtesan, due to not having a safer place to stay.
She generally tags along with Chou-u on whatever misadventure he is up to, with him referring to her as his 'henchman'.[1]
Zulin was later assigned to Meimei to learn the basics of Go.[2]
