Dr. You (楊 (ヨウ) 医官, Yō-ikan^?) is a minor character in The Apothecary Diaries. As a high-ranking court physician, he shares the responsibility of managing the health of the residents of the Outer Court.

Appearance

Dr. You is a tanned man with a rugged face and beard. He has light-colored hair, suggesting foreign ancestry.

Personality

Dr. You is very easygoing and openly shows his emotions. A physician dedicated to his work, Dr. You prefers to keep things simple and not get involved in other issues. He not only ignored the human arm Tianyu took with him, but also kept Gyoku-ou's suspicious death under wraps. Dr. You is also humble, as he was embarrassed to claim a connection to the Moon Prince even when it was true.

Background

Born in the Western Capital, Dr. You comes from a family of doctors. He had become a doctor in the Central Province by the time the Yi clan was destroyed.

At some point, he and Dr. Liu recruited Tianyu as a court physician on seeing his skill at animal dissection, and to curb his extreme curiosity.

Dr. You was among the four physicians chosen to accompany the Moon Prince on his trip to the western capital, along with Dr. Li, Tianyu, and the quack doctor. At the western capital, he assigned himself to the administrative office, Dr. Li to the main house, and Tianyu with Maomao and the quack at the annex.

In the aftermath of the locust plague, Dr. You helped treat the sick and injured in the western capital. When people began associating him with Gyoku-ou, based on their shared surname, Basen confronted him regarding his intentions. Dr. You refused to deny his western origins and instead praised the Moon Prince’s actions following the locust plague, which reminded him of the Yi clan. To associate more with the Moon Prince, Dr. You was given an object to wear.
