Yao (姚 (ヤオ) , Yao^?) is a court lady and a medical assistant in the Outer Court, along with Maomao and her lady-in-waiting En'en. She is a supporting character in The Apothecary Diaries.

Appearance

She is an attractive young woman with a large chest.

Personality

While she is a sheltered and wealthy young lady who comes off as spoiled, she has a strong will and wishes to become a court physician in order to oppose her uncle, who wants to marry her off. She has a strong sense of pride, having wanted to have been the top scorer of the medical assistant exam and became angry when the spot was stolen by Maomao. Though she tries to put on a cold facade, she is very warm and caring.

Abilities

Medicine: Yao attained the second-best score on the medical assistant exam. She learned more reading Luomen's books at the La clan estate.

Diligent: As part of her drive to become a court physician, Yao was dedicated in her medical assistant duties, and was prepared to risk being a poor marriage prospect to learn all she could, including surgery.

Background

With her father dead, Yao's legal guardian is her uncle, Vice Minister Lu of the Board of Rites. The two have an antagonistic relationship and it was a desire to distance herself from her uncle that motivated her to take the court lady exam. After learning about Maomao's background, Yao begins leaning on the La clan to more completely avoid her uncle.

• She is disgusted at the thought of eating frogs and snakes for food, even though her favorite food is hasma.
• According to En'en, the ideal husband for Yao is someone who:
  • Is an adult with his act together, no more than 10 years older than her
  • Comes from a well-known family at least as prestigious as Yao's
