The U Clan (卯の一族, U no Ichizoku^?) is a clan whose influence in the Imperial Court was stronger during the reign of the Former Emperor and has declined in recent times.

History

Uryuu, a member of the U clan's branch family, was adopted into the main branch to marry the head's daughter, with whom he had Lishu. After his wife's death, he married his concubine, with whom he already had children, including Yakou.

Young Lishu was initially sent to the rear palace as a high consort of the Former Emperor, a known pedophile, by her father in order to raise their clan's standing. After the Former Emperor's death and her subsequent stay at a nunnery, she was betrothed to a governor of a similar nature, but the Emperor and his first Pure Consort intervened so she could re-enter the inner palace, though she was a consorts in name only.

Uryuu later sent Lishu and Yakou to attend the gathering at the Western Capital as prospects for the imperial brother's wife, though he was under the belief that Lishu was not his daughter, until Maomao proved otherwise.

Following Lishu's banishment from the inner palace, the U clan's standing dropped further.
