The Apothecary Diaries Wiki

Shin ( (シン) ?), also known as Xing, is the former head lady-in-waiting of the Crystal Pavilion and a minor character in The Apothecary Diaries. As Lady Lihua's main lady-in-waiting and cousin, she was in charge of managing the pavilion, but took advantage of that relationship.

She was dismissed from the Crystal Pavilion and the Inner Court after being caught with contraband perfumes to make an abortifacient when her own mistress was pregnant.

Appearance[]

Being cousins and the same age, Shin greatly resembles Lihua, though Maomao discerns that Lihua has a bigger chest size.[2]

Personality[]

Shin is very prideful and holds a high opinion of herself. She is envious of Lihua's position as a high consort, and as a result hates her for being better than her.

Abilities[]

Diligent: Though not on the same level as the Jade Pavilion ladies-in-waiting, Shin still constantly attends to Lihua.

Background[]

Shin and Lihua entered the Inner Court at the same time, on orders from their family to gain the Emperor's affections. Lihua later became a consort, while Shin her head lady-in-waiting, who chose the rest of the ladies-in-waiting for her.

When the Quack Doctor and a palace woman entered the Crystal Pavilion, Shin tried to prevent them from seeing Lihua. While Shin was intimidated, the Quack ran to open the shed, which contained the sick servant Maomao had been asked to look after. The shed also contained several perfumes, the odors of which Shin used as incense (for the servant) to disguise.

Later, Jinshi confronted Shin on her possession of illegal perfumes, along with Gaoshun, Lihua, and Maomao. Shin initally deflected the issue to intruders entering the Crystal Pavilion, and when Maomao tried to check her for matching scents, she clawed Maomao in response. Lihua then came forward, accusing Shin of making a miscarriage-inducing drug and in angry response, Shin repeatedly claimed it was she who deserved Lihua's position. As a last resort, Shin threw a bottle of perfume at Lihua, but was stopped by Gaoshun. In response to her comments, Lihua slapped Shin across the face, and requested she be banished from the Inner Court.

Trivia[]

  • Her name (杏; Chinese: Zing, Romaji: Anzu) means 'apricot' in both Chinese and Japanese.
