"Raw Fish" is the 15th episode of the The Apothecary Diaries anime adaptation.

Gaoshun requests Maomao's help in solving an apparent poisoning case. Meanwhile, Jinshi deals with an unwelcome visitor who's taken to lingering in his office.

Maomao is curious about a smoking pipe that was found during a fire in a warehouse. Then, Gaoshun comes to her for advice, saying that a bureaucrat fell into a coma after eating puffer fish, but it seems that puffer fish was not used in the dish. Maomao goes to the bureaucrat's house with Basen, a surly young military officer, to find out the truth. On a shelf in the kitchen, she finds some seaweed, which is said to be the bureaucrat's favorite food, and Maomao sneaks out with the out-of-season ingredient.^[1]

A group of officials discuss Lihaku's investigation of the burned warehouse, helped by a courtesan Jinshi bought out, with Lakan listening in.
Gaoshun's colleague who brought him the case is shown to be Lakan.
Basen introduces himself by name.
The official who consulted Gaoshun on the case is only shown at the end of the seaweed tasting.
Similarly in the manga, Jinshi doesn't include Xiangqi among Lakan's interests (Go, Shogi, and rumors), despite the game being part of how he perceives people and him being undefeated at it.
