"Suicide or Murder?" is the 9th episode of the The Apothecary Diaries anime adaptation.

An older acquaintance of Jinshi's dies while drinking at a party. A servant's body turns up in a moat. Both deaths are written off as self-inflicted, but Maomao's keen observations tell her that there's more to both stories.

While busy with work, Jinshi receives news of the death of a military officer. The cause of death is said to be drinking too much at a party with his friends. However, Jinshi, who knew the military officer well, is not convinced and asks Maomao about death by alcohol. Maomao then learns the officer's eating habits and the reason for his heavy drinking, and deduces the true cause of death from the sake bottle that contained the alcohol. Maomao thinks about the deaths of others and asks, "I want to be poisoned to death." What is her true intention?
