"The Garden Party" is the 6th episode of the The Apothecary Diaries anime adaptation.

Maomao does her best to navigate the complex social situations at the garden party, including meeting the other Upper First rank concubines. But once she settles down to do her work as a food-taster, she discovers a surprise in a bowl of soup.

The grand, splendid event, the Garden Party, has finally begun. The Emperor, his four senior consorts, the royal family, and high-ranking officials have all gathered in one place, and the venue, bustling with performances that are being shown one after another, is also a place of quarrels between the consorts' maids. When mealtime arrives, Maomao, the poison tester, takes turns bringing the food to her mouth. However, after the food has been tested, Maomao's expression stiffens, which makes her suspicious.^[1]

Lishu’s ladies-in-waiting discuss her food pickiness behind her back.
Hongniang is shown passing Lingli to Maomao, who grabs at Maomao while in her arms.
Maomao notices some Crystal Pavilion ladies-in-waiting shivering in the cold. She offers heating stones to them, but they promptly run away.
Yinghua compliments Maomao on trying to share heating stones with the Crystal Pavilion ladies-in-waiting.
Guiyuan, Yinghua, and Ailan comment on all three hair sticks Maomao received.
Gyokuyou, the Emperor, and the food tasters left and right of Maomao react after Maomao announces the soup is poisoned.
Jinshi complains that formal attire is too tight before peeking into the garden party.
Maomao thinks that she prefers Jinshi looking and acting younger than he claims.
Maomao is shown vomiting into a bucket, with Jinshi and Gaoshun looking on, before they talk about who poisoned Gyokuyou.
After her conversation with Jinshi, Maomao notices Lishu and her food taster walking away.
Gaoshun asks Jinshi if the poisoning incident is related to the case of the wooden tablets.
