The Royal Capital (王都, Ōto?) is the capital of Li and the Central Province. It contains notable locations such as the Imperial Palace and the Red Light District, making it a main setting of The Apothecary Diaries.
Overview[]
The royal capital was previously a city built on top of ruins from Li's original inhabitants and a tourist attraction. To cater to visitors, a red light district was built nearby.[1] During the time of the Former Emperor's predecessor, the capital was moved to its current location, due to the Shrine of Choosing being there.[2]
A main road runs north to south in the royal capital, and hosts a bustling market.[3] High-ranking officials and rich people live in the northern part of the capital, closer to the imperial palace,[4] while the poorest live in the southern part, near the red light district. This is also reflected in shop quality and public safety; both decrease the further south one goes.[3][5]
