The Red Plum Village is a village in the Central Province, where former high consort Lishu was sent following her banishment from the Inner Court.
Overview[]
Red Plum Village is located northwest of the Royal Capital. The residents are known as 'wayfarers'. Instead of religious practices, they learn and research how to live long lives. Much of the village is used for agriculture.[1]
History[]
After she was banished from the Inner Court, Lishu was sent to Red Plum Village by the Emperor as punishment. There, she became a wayfarer and learned how to raise ducks.
When Basen arrived at Red Plum Village to learn duck-keeping on orders from Jinshi, Lishu served as his instructor.[1] The ducks he raised would be distributed to nearby farming villages in preparation for the locust plague. One of them imprinted on Basen, who he named Jofu and took to the Western Capital. During Lishu and Basen's last meeting, Lishu requested that Basen return to Red Plum Village after his stay at the Western Capital, which he agreed.[2]
Lifestyle[]
The wayfarers are people who shun the outside world and diligently practice to become immortals; they aim to be fit and lead healthy lives. As much of their research is hands-on, they wear clothes for outdoor work instead of religious attire.
Basen sees them as eccentrics, given that they can passionately talk about their field of research for a long time.
