"The Apothecary Diaries, Volume 1" ( 薬屋のひとりごと１, Kusuriya no Hitorigoto 1 ) is the 1st volume of the Manga series written by Natsu Hyūga based on the Light Novel of the same name. The Manga is drawn by Nekokurage and compiled by Itsuki Nanao, with character designs from Touko Shino. It was first published in Japan on September 25, 2017. The translated English version was published on December 8, 2020.

Maomao, a young woman trained in the art of herbal medicine, is forced to work as a lowly servant in the inner palace. Though she yearns for life outside its perfumed halls, she isn't long for a life of drudgery! Using her wits to break a “curse” afflicting the imperial heirs, Maomao attracts the attentions of the handsome eunuch Jinshi and is promoted to attendant food taster. Synopsis[]

Having been kidnapped and sold to the inner palace, Maomao began her work as a low-rank servant in hopes to be released in two years. But as life would have it, things didn't go as planned and Mao Mao gets herself entwined with issues of the inner court that will ultimately alter the course of her entire life.

First, she saves the High Consort Lady Gyokuyou's daughter, the princess, and becomes her lady-in-waiting as a food tester. Then she gains the attention of the high court official Jinshi who seems to make it his life work to involve her in every incident that happens in the inner palace.
