Dr. Li (李 (リ) 医官, Ri-ikan^?) is a minor character in The Apothecary Diaries. As a mid-ranking court physician, he shares the responsibility of managing the health of the residents of the Outer Court.

Appearance

Prior to his trip to the Western Capital, Dr. Li was an academic man of a small build. However, he returned from the voyage as a well-built and muscular man, making it difficult for others to recognize him. His newfound ruddy skin and rugged build allow him to intimidate uncooperative patients.

Personality

Dr. Li is very direct in his words, as he openly asked Dr. Liu if a war was breaking out soon and why a woman was unprecedentedly given surgical training. Maomao notes that he is a "dedicated if sometimes stubborn man". He often snaps at people who joke around too much, especially Tianyu.

Abilities

Medical Knowledge: As a middle physician soon to be promoted to an upper physician, Dr. Li has exemplary knowledge of Linese medical techniques.

Background

During Dr. Liu’s selection of physicians for the western capital expedition, Dr. Li questioned the specifics of the expedition and spoke out against his decision to train and bring a court lady along. Despite that, he was later among the four physicians selected.

At the western capital, Dr. Li was assigned to work in the main house by Dr. You.

In the weeks following the locust plague, Dr. Li saw patients at a clinic offering free medical care. When Maomao, Chue, Lihaku, and Basen went there to help, he assigned each of them tasks to do, while he mainly did patient examinations. Later in the day, Dr. Li angrily took Tianyu outside to bury a human arm when he was discovered with one.
