Lakou (
Appearance[]
He is tan and well built from a lifestyle of farming, as well as broad-shouldered and tall. He has gentle eyes and emanates a warm presence that reminds Maomao of her adoptive father.[1]
Personality[]
He is among the more ordinary members of the La Clan; unlike the rest of his family, he doesn't care for family politics. Although Lahan betrayed his family, he still considers Lahan his son (unlike his wife). He is thankful that Lakan became the clan head because it allowed him to live his current life as a farmer, which he very much enjoys.
Abilities[]
Farming: Driven by his enthusiasm, Lakou is a very competent farmer, being the first to successfully cultivate sweet potatoes in Li.
Background[]
Lakou was born to a concubine after his father was dissatisfied with his first son, who could not recognize his parents' faces. He was named the La clan heir prior to Lakan's trip to the Western Capital.[2] At some point, he married a woman of his father's choosing and had two sons.
Sometime later, he purchased a sweet potato plant and began cultivating it, and accidentally created a surplus of sweet potatoes.[3]
When Lakan seized the clan headship, Lakou and his family (except Lahan) moved to a countryside estate outside of the capital. Lakou became a farmer to the displeasure of his wife and father.
When Maomao and Lahan were held under guard by his father, Lakou was alerted to their arrival by his eldest son. He stopped his father from causing more harm.[1] Later, Lahan offered to buy potatoes, seed potatoes, sprouts, and farming knowledge from him as part of a plan to shore up the country's food supply and fulfill the trade agreement with Aylin. Maomao then forced Lakou to put the terms in a contract so he wouldn't be scammed by Lahan.[3]
Lakou later went to the Northern Province in order to find the limit to growing sweet potatoes in a cooler climate.[4]
