Lahan (羅半 (ラハン) , Rahan^?) is the adoptive son and biological nephew of Lakan and the adoptive brother and biological cousin of Maomao. He is a secondary character in The Apothecary Diaries.

Appearance[]

He looks like the male version of Maomao and has fox eyes. He is one year older than Maomao.

Personality[]

Cunning and perceptive like the rest of his family, Lahan is a miser who is particularly good with numbers. He is known for his love of money, and he finances and runs several businesses. Unlike his adoptive father, he is a reasonable person who can handle social situations; like his adoptive father, he can't handle alcohol at all.^[4]

Abilities[]

Financial calculation: He is extremely skilled with numbers, which is a skill that comes in handy in civil affairs—and when you're trying to make bank off of your adoptive father's Shogi tournament.

Meddling: His meddling and speculative nature, the former often used for personal gain (such as financial benefit), comes in handy when he aids Jinshi with various political cases; despite Maomao's disdain for him, she works together with him for the sake of common interest.

Foreign languages: At a banquet held in the western capital, Lahan was able to converse with foreign guests.

Background[]

Lahan aided Lakan in blackmailing his grandfather into relinquishing the position of clan head to Lakan. As a result, the rest of his family members were exiled from the Royal Capital and had to move to the countryside. His grandparents and mother consider him a traitor, while his father is indifferent to the family politics and just wants to be a farmer.

He becomes more significant due to his involvement in solving the problem of food shortage caused by locust plague and assistance in international relations. Later volumes further expand on Maomao's relationship with her family and the ensuing La Clan chaos.

Lahan resides in the La Clan’s villa in the Royal Capital, and is generally responsible for managing its assortment of servants that are hired by Lakan, such as Sanfan.

He is intelligent but lacks athletic ability, he gets seasick when traveling on boat^[4] and is also unable to ride a horse.^[5]
He flirted with En'en the first time he met her because she was pretty,^[6] but is specifically into older women.^[7]
