Haku-u (
Appearance[]
The eldest of three nearly identical sisters, Haku-u wears a white ribbon in her hair to differentiate her from Koku-u (black ribbon) and Seki-u (red ribbon). Maomao describes the sisters as having almond-shaped eyes and charcoal-drawn eyebrows.[2]
Personality[]
Haku-u is protective of Gyokuyou and greatly cares about her well-being. She distrusts anyone who tries to take advantage of Gyokuyou, including Gyoku-ou and Gyokuen.[3] Aside from Hongniang, she is most mature and serious of Gyokuyou's ladies-in-waiting. Rikuson notes that she was already very smart at five years old.[4]
Abilities[]
Diligent: Haku-u took care of Maomao when she spent a night at Gyokuyou's pavilion.
Background[]
Haku-u grew up in the Western Capital as part of the Yi Clan, and a childhood friend to Gyokuyou. When she was five years old, the rebellion against the Yi clan occurred. Haku-u was evacuated to the house of Gyokuyou's mother, along with her mother, sisters, and Rikuson, to hide from Gyoku-ou's supporters.
Haku-u later went with her sisters to become new ladies-in-waiting for Gyokuyou in the rear palace. When Maomao was summoned to investigate Gyokuyou's blemished hair stick, Haku-u criticized Gyokuyou's carefree attitude.[3] She brought up the fact that Gyoku-ou was behind not sending new ladies-in-waiting to Gyokuyou, and that he recently adopted a girl similar in appearance to her.
When Rikuson returned to the Western Capital, Haku-u urged him to become its leader. She was also responsible for sending Gyokuyou's letters to him by pigeon.[5]
Trivia[]
